The Behavior Driven Health Plan
is a service offered to companies
to help them drive down
future health care costs by providing financial incentives to
employees who engage in specific, evidence-based health activities
(behaviors) proven to better manage chronic
diseases
which, according to the Centers for Disease Control, account for
more than 75% of all medical care
costs.

believe you are presenting the next generation of

Employees have the freedom to decide whether they want to engage in one or none
or all of the suggested activities. Since the employee's
level of engagement in these health activities (behaviors) will
determine his/her ultimate cost, it is called the Behavior Driven
Health Plan.
Either way, the
employer pays less.

Problems in Health Plan Design
One of the main issues with current benefit plan designs is
they do not adequately address the problems that run up costs
(chronic diseases).
There is a misalignment between the plan design and desired
outcome. A spreadsheet at renewal time is not a strategy.
Anyone can raise the deductibles and copays and pass costs along to
employees.
At some point, cost-shifting (asking employees to pay more or
reducing the benefits) will discourage employees from seeking
recommended and needed prevention services, thereby leading to
worse health outcomes and increased costs.
The Solution
The Behavior Driven Health Plan eliminates that
misalignment. The immediate savings come from plan design
changes that use incentives to influence employee behaviors to
improve their health. For example, employees who are health
plan members receive incentives for activities like having a
routine PCP exam, lab work, or quitting smoking.

The
Economics
On
average, most employers can save between 10% and 20% in the first
year without changing the insurance carrier (BCBS, etc.).
The program utilizes deductibles to decrease the cost of your
insurance. Employees earn credits to be used to cover their
deductible by meeting the four key program
activities. This lets them save on out-of-pocket costs and
helps drive them to the care they need to stay healthy and
productive. Each employee can engage in one or all or none
of these suggested health behaviors. Either way, the
employer pays less.
